CMS

Recently I have had the privilege of taking on a position that involves a lot of custom code programming.  A position where I see myself applying my knowledge and experience while growing mutually with a great company.  Some of my daily tasks include creative thinking and implementation of PHP, SQL, HTML, CSS, & JavaScript for various websites. I’m a huge fan of web development for many reasons and considering the chain of events thought that it’s a great opportunity for a new post on my blog.  The web development World is continuously evolving as new tools become available to developers and programmers in assisting them with building new web solutions.  Building with a Content Management System such as Joomla, Drupal, or WordPress can have a significant impact on your deliverable.

Building with a Content Management System

In most cases the average website owner is uninformed about what possibilities and functionality of a Content Management System.  There are actually a couple of reasons that an Open Source Solution (OSS) such as the ones mentioned above are the perfect application for building a website or e-commerce platform.

  • Flexible
  • Customizable
  • Functional
  • Multi-User Support
  • FREE

These five reasons should be plenty of validation as to what you can and can not do with an open source content management system.  Most clients that are seeking to have a website built are indeed focused on just these particular things.  As a web developer or programmer you can cut down the time you spend custom coding and focus on building a web solution with an open source application of your choice.  Cutting down your work time to about 50% can leave more room for creative thinking, strategy implementation, and overall review of the project itself.

In a previous post I had talked about VirtueMart E-Commerce for Joomla component that opens up a door to unlimited potential and capabilities for an e-commerce solution.  A highly recommended component for Joomla that I would suggest to anyone interested in building an online web store or shopping cart presence for their business.  This is also an Open Source Solution that can be downloaded at no cost.

There are several resource sections here on my blog that you can find out more information about building your own website on a Content Management System.  Building with a Content Management System such as Joomla, Drupal, or WordPress can be easy enough for the advanced developer or programmer but a real challenge to someone that is just learning about these particular applications.
